Artie Traum April 26, 1975 Stony Brook University, Long Island, NY Master Reel > Sound Forge > Wav > Flac 8 > Dime 33 years later. This morning I read that Artie Traum had died and it really hurt because he was one of my favorite musicians and I'd seen him and Happy often enough that he was really part of my life. I first saw them in 1969 at the Philadelphia Folk Festival when I was a teenager and I saw both of them many times over the years, sometimes solo, sometimes together. A decade could go by and then I'd see that they were playing and head over. The last time was last year when Happy and Artie played in New Jersey. I posted that tape on Dime shortly after the show. Anyway, I was looking for something suitable to post and remembered this one. It's sort of a weird tape, but a fine show and great quality. By this time we knew Happy and Artie well enough to tape them off the board. It was supposed to be outside but it was so cold that after two songs we moved inside. That presented some problems for taping since there was no soundboard inside. So the first two songs are mono soundboard, and then we moved inside and I just dropped a mike in front of Artie for the rest of the first set. For the second set we set up a second mike and have a stereo recording. Not really board, since there was no board, but not really audience since the mikes were right at Artie's mouth and guitar. So, it's a board recording as far as I'm concerned. Of course, being broke at the time meant that I only had the one reel, so I had to stop the tape between most songs to make sure I got it all. That worked out. Why are you running, are you afraid to die? The reason I am running is because I cannot fly Thanks so much Artie. Thanks for the love and joy you brought to so many people. Rest in peace. dgk July 22 2008 My style on track marks is to put them as close as possible to the actual start of the song, figuring that someone jumping to a track wants to hear the music and not the intro. That works out particularly weirdly on this recording where there is a cut between the tracks from the original recording. Still, I think it works out for the best.
