Malian singer Oumou Sangaré is known as 'the "Songbird of Wassoulou': She is the leading female star of the 'Wassoulou sound' which is based on traditional devotional, hunting and harvest songs. This music features pentatonic melodies that have an Arabic feel that is mixed with an assortment of African polyrhythms, percussion, dance, and in Sangaré's case, powerful female vocals and haunting harmonies.

On this tour with her exquisite band, Sangaré was joined by American banjo player Bela Fleck.
