An Evening With Tony Allen (ex of Fela Kuti), Bela Fleck, and Bassekou Kouyate/Ngoni Ba, June 12, 2010, Toronto Canada In Queen's Park behind the Ontario Parliament Building. Tony Allen of Nigeria is the former drummer/bandleader for Fela Kuti, and co-inventor of the Afrobeat sound. Bela Fleck is a US banjoist, started out in bluegrass, moved on to adopt a jazz fusion approach. He has been nominated in more different Grammy categories than anyone else in history. Bassekou Kouyate leads Ngoni Ba - they are from Mali, don't know what their genre is, but it's good. They feature several types of ngoni, which is a gourd stringed instrument, precursor of the American banjo. If you think of mandolin, guitar and bass, that'll give you an idea of the tonal range. The Tony Allen show was abbreviated - off to a late start because of a downpour earlier on. Since it's less than 48 minutes long, I've bundled it together with the Fleck/Ngoni Ba shows, since the theme is continuous and the whole thing burns nicely onto 2 disks. Here's the track list with such info as I could gather. d1 101 Tony Allen d1 102 Tony Allen d1 103 Tony Allen d1 104 Tony Allen d1 105 Tony Allen d1 106 Tony Allen d1 1111 60 Sec Gap d1 202 Bela Fleck solo d1 203 Bela Fleck solo d1 204 Bela Fleck solo d1 205 Bela Fleck solo d2 2201 Bassekou Kouyate/Ngoni Ba d2 2202 Bassekou Kouyate/Ngoni Ba, d2 2203 Bassekou Kouyate/Ngoni Ba, d2 2204 Bassekou Kouyate/Ngoni Ba, with Bela Fleck d2 2205 Bassekou Kouyate/Ngoni Ba, Griot piece, with Bela Fleck d2 2206 Bassekou Kouyate/Ngoni Ba, with Bela Fleck
