This recording has circulated as "Shade Gap Bluegrass Festival" in Gettysburg, PA. However, after research I've found that this recording (and others like the Del McCoury 8-8-69 set that circulates) are in fact from a festival at Harpers Memorial Park in Shade Gap (not Gettysburg). See http://newspaperarchive.com/huntingdon-daily-news/1969-08-08/ (site visited 4-2012). When I received the less-circulated second and third Monroe sets from this weekend, they came to me listed as "4th Annual Pennsylvania Bluegrass Festival". So that's what I'm going with for the venue. I'm guessing the festival was colloquially known as "Shade Gap Bluegrass Festival". - Ryan B (4/2012)
