From my first trip to the incredible High Sierra Music Festival, I was lucky enough to witness Peter Rowan's current project (at the time) called Reggaebilly (also the title of his album from around that time). This band was basically a mash up of some bluegrass folks and some reggae folks playing bluegrass-influenced reggae. Yes, some of your purists out there may turn up your collective noses at this show, but if you like either bluegrass or reggae music, I think you'll find something to love on here. The playing is SO tasteful, and the song selection -- just perfect -- reggae classics like "Natural Mystic" and "No Woman, No Cry" share the stage with bluegrass classics like "Panama Red", "Little Maggie", "The Cuckoo Bird", and "Wayfaring Stranger". For anyone who doesn't know, Peter Rowan was part of the lineup of "Old And In The Way", the original Bluegrass jamband, featuring none other than Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, and Vasser Clemens. Enjoy! Scott Recorded, transferred (August 2011), mastered (12/11-12/2011), and posted (12/13/2011) by Scott Bernstein.
