Side A starts with the tail end of a set from the Winston-Salem, NC-based band, Boot Hill, featuring songwriter and vocalist Louisa Branscomb, whose songs have been covered by such artists as Alison Krauss, Dale Ann Bradley, and others. Up next is 5th String Symphony, a Seldom Scene-influenced band from Charlottesville, VA, whose set continues on Side B. Chubby Anthony & Big Timber, from Florida, are next up on the docket, although their set here is abbreviated. Anthony is a legendary fiddler who played with the Stanley Brothers for many years (see: http://www.dizzyrambler.com/legends/AllensCafe/TheMusic/pf_chubbyAnthony.html for more information); he passed away two years after this performance at age 45. Bluegrass-gospel legends, The Lewis Family, round out this tape, with several tunes featuring their pristine harmonies and fine picking; "Rocking on the Waves" is a lovely ride. See Cassette #153 for more from the Lewis Family. --Mitchell Wittenberg
