Pretty crowded by time show started, though I thought the crowd was a bit subdued for a Friday night, as if for many it was their 1st YMSB experience. With the Tucson Folk Festival happening that weekend too, it's possible some newbies were drawn in. The band was way into it & a bit embarrassed from not being there in so long. They claimed they were having a great time. Only 1 long set for this show with no opening act, the first of a 3 night weekend stand in Arizona. -Mercury retro moment getting gear set up: We all know YMSB is taper friendly and usually 191 Toole is very accomodating to tapers. Got to venue with my gear and see one of same security guards who is usually cool, but another one comnes over and blocks it. I ask him if the club manager is there, who I know personally and is taper friendly himself - nope, he's working Rialto tonight. Tell him to check with band - he texts both band manager and club manager. I wait ...and wait...he comes back and tells me manager has to get ok from band...oy!...I wait and wait and finally give up on him and head to merch guy: he is the (new) band manager - says he knows it's ok usually but still wants ok from band...wait a few more and he and security guy get it the ok at same time. Close to showtime, filling up, I squeeze toward a pole front and center and start setting up - fortunately, no flack from anyone and the couple in front of me are old Yonder heads and get it and stay in front and on other side of mics whole show! Afterwards, hung with tour manager told him I'd see him tomorrow - at that point the security guy had become my next newest friend! (Love making new friends: 2 in 1 night at least this night!!) -so I ended up in the "sweet spot" - center of floor about 20' out from stage and got the mics about 6.5' up. Golden recording! May be my best with TASCAM yet with the Cores. Real down front super full sound! I was only one recording at show. -really good set IMO - seen Yonder lots - first with Coleman and he blends right in, seems to have a mellow personality. Took some amazing solos. Got most of setlist down - track 11 is one of the regulars from the Criminal story, just don't know name, and track 17 is an old familiar one too. Track 13 was an instrumental tune that was Coleman's. Track 12 seemed to be a new one to me. They did 3 of the 5 tunes from the new (old) EP. Highlights for me were "I'd Like Off", "Father's Arms", "How 'bout You?", "Don't Lean On Me", and "Pretty Daughter" - all seemingly not played as frequently these days. "How 'bout You?" was 1st one in 4 years! and 1st time Nick ever played it live at a show. -got some really good photos from I-phone since it was so intimate. Put them in file set. -another Sonoran Desert Recording recorded, mastered and seeded by Matt23. For personal use only - no selling. Share freely. Do not convert into MP3 and share - MP3 for personal use only. Keep the gene pool clean! -you know you should go see & support these guys...so just do it! (swoosh!) -got some really good photos from I-phone since it was so intimate. Put them in file set.
