Tut Taylor Archive Reel #239 Tut on Dulcimer, Tut on Dobro & Plectrum Banjo, Jim Johnson (?)/Tut on Dulcimer Circa 1976 Unknown Location 1/2/1976 The tape is a 7.5 inch per second mono recording. The reel was played on a modified Revox A77 reel-to-reel machine with a Reutelhuber custom designed and built tape head preamplifier incorporating 2003 era technology and components including all metal film resistors, polypropelene coupling capacitors, and low ESR electrolytic supply bypass capacitors. The resulting analog signal was digitized by a Mytek Digital 8X96 analog to digital converter using Steinberg Nuendo as the recording software and saved as a 24 bit 48 kHz wave file. Post processing and was done by David Avery with Nuendo using the following Waves Plugins: Q10, X-Hum, X-Noise, S1 Shuffler and L3. The file was dithered down to a 16 bit/44.1kHz wave file. 1. Side A1 features Tut noodling around on solo dulcimer. Side A2 finds Tut playing some Dobro and plectrum banjo. Side B begins with an unknown guitarist performing western songs. While I can't be sure, this may be Jim Johnson (compare Side B, tracks 19-20 with Archive Cassette #113 where Johnson performs a number of takes of "Mountains and Wood Smoke..."). The second half of Side B features, for the most part, some additional solo dulcimer. --Mitchell Wittenberg The box is labeled Asheville 1966, F&S. It is clearly neither. Side A is Tut playing dobro, mandolin and banjo. Side B is an unknown guitar player in what appears to be a radio broadcast.
